Gary L. Polhemus was appointed by the Town Board to fill a vacancy for Councilman in January, 2011.   He has lived in the Town of LaGrange since 1985, and grew up in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  He and his wife Linda of 33 years, have two sons, Gary Jr. 24 and Brad 14. 

Gary has been an active participant in the town serving our taxpayers by working on the Open Space Plan Committee, Public Safety Committee, and most recently the Zoning Board of Appeals. He has served as the Chairman of each of the aforementioned committees and boards.  He has also been involved in other projects along the way such as the Gateway Hamlet Planning Committee.  Currently he is developing a 10 year Capital Plan as well as serving as the liaison to Recreation and the Assessor.

Experience and Accomplishments in the Town of LaGrange:

2009 – 2010  LaGrange Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman
As the ZBA Chairman I went beyond the traditional ZBA chair duties working to:
-Document meeting procedures
-Legal practices to be followed to limit Town law suit exposure
-Coordination guidelines with the Planning Board
-Escrow collection schedule to limit the financial exposure to the Town 


2008 – 2009 LaGrange Public Safety Committee Chairman
This committee developed a public safety plan addressing current safety issues within the town. This data was compiled into a 52 page document to be used by all departments within the town. Focus was on traffic safety, volume growth, and areas of high concern for development considerations.


2006 – 2007 Open Space Plan Committee Chairman
This committee developed the Open Space Plan for the Town of La Grange. This is the plan being used today by the Open Space Implementation Committee for land protection and               conservation easements.
